Mr Podobnik attended Ljubljana Forum 2011 on 14.10.2011
Mr Janez Podobnik, ECPD Director attended Ljubljana Forum on Friday, 14.10.2011, where he presented a development project where ECPD is collaborating with ICPE (International Center for Promotion of Enterprises), namely:
Recreational and Long Distance Tourist Bicycle lanes along Sava River, Connecting Capital Cities Ljubljana, Zagreb and Belgrade. Ljubljana Forum 2011 was one of the most creative and impressive vision building events where business, knowledge and ambitious urban projects met. Organizer of the conference, Center for eGovernance Development(www.cegd.eu), wanted to position City of Ljubljana as a regional capital that boosts future pace in the development of the Danube region with a link to the recently set EU Strategy for the Danube Region(http://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/cooperation/danube/index_en.htm). The EU Strategy for Danube Region conditions and also orientates the economic, social and territorial cohesion of particular European Union region, that needs to be taken into consideration when planning the future of urban areas. Therefore the intention of the conference was also to define the key role of Metropolitan areas of growth (MEGA) in programme periods and/or financial perspectives of European Union (2007-2013; 2014 – 2020; 2021 – 2027). Below is an abstract of Mr Podobnik's presentation.
The presentation will show the overall objective of the project, which is the implementation of the EU Strategy for Danube Region through focusing on Sava River Basin as the common place and link between the three cities (Ljubljana – Zagreb – Belgrade) and their contribution to territorial cooperation, future development of the region and overall quality of life (recreation and tourism), which will contribute to sustainable development promotion.
The expected results of the project are based on three aspects: Economic (opportunity for creating new transnational/crossborder tourist package in the Sava River Basin, combining with rail-cycle-boat trips along the river); Social (cultural improvement of cooperation among 3 cities, learning from good practices, promoting sustainable tourism and transport through crossborder cooperation); Environmental (fostering the integrated management of the Sava river waterfront/riverbank - sustainable management & design of open public spaces, fostering integrative spatial planning in the Sava River Basin.)
