An Audience at the Minister for environment and spatial planning of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

On 6th July 2010 the common delegation by the ICPE and ECPD was received by Roko Žarnić Ph.D., the minister for Environment and spatial planning of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. The delegation consisted of academician Anton Vratuša, Igor Pavlin and Janez Podobnik. Mr Žarnič was introduced to the goal and the substance of the international conference on environmentally integrated management of Sava, Danube and the Black Sea river basins, to be organized on 10th and 11th November in Ljubljana.

The minister expressed his support for the conference and agreed to actively participate on it, as a speaker. He also gave a proposal to include, as one of the special areas of the conference, the Sava river and its use as a waterway – especially in Slovenia, where the issue is being neglected.

Since the conference will be focused on the thematic areas of transport and tourism, the minister's proposal was with great approval incorporated into the conference program.
The organization of this conference is a great challenge for the ECPD. It is the first concrete and realistic result of the signing of the memorandum between ICPE and ECPD.

ECPD's basics remain true to the Agenda 21: think globally act locally. In the process of mitigation and adaptation to the environmental crisis the local issues need to be considered when searching for and applying different solutions.

In this context, transport and tourism remain a big business opportunity for introduction of environment-friendly technologies and last but not least represent business that creates new jobs for the local population!
